ADRIAAN (HENDRIK) BOSHOFF - 1935-2007

Adriaan Boshoff was born in 1935 in Pretoria, the city where he grew up and qualified as an electrician.

The urge to paint surfaced during childhood, a talent which he continued to perfect without any formal art training. With his enormous natural talent, self-discipline, love and devotion for his work, he mastered the skill of applying brush and paint. He is an expert on colour, being able to create 200 different colours from three basic colours.

He has also developed a perceptive eye to observe colours which most others fail to see. Adriaan carefully plans his paintings and often spends weeks on sketches to ensure a perfect end result - of importance is to harmonise the composition, lines and background. Figures are sketched in the naked form first and only 'dressed' afterwards. To recall an impression of a certain scene from memory can be a lengthy process - it usually takes several hours of uninterrupted thinking, imagining and visualising before he will capture his perception on canvas. Always in search for new inspiration and ideas, he travels regularly.

Adriaan places a high value on quality and destroys a painting if it does not meet his own standards.

"If every work I do is not the best within my ability, it is not good enough for art and the public either."

Adriaan Boshoff's work has long reached collectors, as well as investment status and can be found in most well-known art collections worldwide. These include collections of TOTAL, SA Reserve Bank, Eskom, The Namibian Art Museum, numerous local authorities and the Bank of Switzerland to name a few. His paintings can also found in countries such as Belgium, Australia, Portugal and the UK, amongst others.
